Aim
The BA in Applied Management provides managers, deputy managers and supervisors working in the non-profit/human services sector an opportunity to further enhance the higher management and academic skills of critical analysis, research and effective thinking in order to become influencers of developments and initiators of change leading to improved, quality service provision.
Who Is It For?
This Bachelor of Arts in Applied Management programme has been designed specifically for those who are, or aspiring to be, managers, deputy managers and supervisory staff working in the non-profit/human services sector (for example, disability, youth, community development etc.) who wish to develop their skills in planning, designing, implementing and leading within modern, person centred services.
Participants in this programme will generally be those who have completed the Certificate and Higher Certificate level courses in Applied Management (Non-Profit/Human Services).
This course is open to applicants who:
- are, or aspire to be, managers, deputy managers or supervisors of two or more staff
- are over 23 years of age
- (Employment in non-profit/human services may be beneficial but is not a pre-requisite for entry to this programme.)
Certification
This course is certified by HETAC and is placed as a major award at Level 7 on the National Framework of Qualifications.
Duration
3 years, with an award conferred on completion of each successful year:
- Certificate in Applied Management after Year 1
- Higher Certificate in Applied Management after Year 2
What you’ll learn
Having completed the Certificate and the Higher Certificate in Applied Management (Non-Profit/Human Services), the following subjects are studied in Year 3 to receive the BA qualification:
- Project: Organisational Development
- Conflict Resolution
- Managing the Individualised Service
- Leading within the Learning Organisation
- Influencing Policy and Enacting Change

Fees
The course fees for Year 3, Degree Award Year for 2010/11 are €2,995.
Please note that students undertaking this course may be entitled to tax relief of 20%, a saving of approximately €600 for the student. Students are advised to contact their local inspector of taxes to confirm eligibility. More information and the relevant form is available here on the Revenue Commissioners’ website.
The College also supports all students with an annual fees instalment plan.

How to apply
This course is now open for applications through September 2010.
Please note: Those students who are progressing from the Higher Certificate in Applied Management to the Bachelor of Arts in Applied Management degree course are not required to complete the application form. Those students will complete a Reregistration Form which will be supplied to them by their tutor. Only students who are applying to the College for the first time are required to complete the application form.
