Of the students who have conferred to date results have been consistently good. On average, over 81% of students have achieved a distinction or merit in their final award.
The College has a very high completion rate of 89%. This compares very favourably with the completion rate of 83.2 % in Irish Universities (Higher Education Authority, 2000). Some Universities have completion rates between 73 and 80%.
This low withdrawal rate for Open Training College courses is particularly significant given that most students are mature students returning to study after a long interval. Indeed, many have no previous formal qualifications. In addition, all students are working (usually full time) and many have family and other commitments on an on-going basis. The College attributes this success to the support mechanisms it operates for learners.
