How We Assess

Students taking examsAssessment varies from course to course and from year to year. However, the College strives to achieve a balance between practical assignments and written examinations.

Assessment in all our programmes is largely completed by applied practical assignment and written examinations are kept to a minimum.

Students undertaking the Social Studies courses are required to complete written assignments and sit one exam per year.  Management students in Year 1are not required to sit any exams and assessment is by written assignment only. Students of Year 2 and Year 3 of the Management Degree will sit one exam per year and assessment is by written assignment for the remaining modules.  Students of the Supported Employment courses are required to submit a completed project at the end of the course in addition to written assignments during the course.

Assessment is conducted for each module using HETAC’s (or the FETAC equivalent) Accumulation of Credits and Certification of Subjects (ACCS) system.  This allows the student to retain the credits they have gained for each successfully completed module, should their studies be interrupted for some reason (e.g. ill-health, family or personal matters, etc.).
